Perform 4 Purpose provides students with the opportunity to attend arts-based summer camps through two options: Perform 4 Purpose Summer Camps and scholarships to arts-based summer camps in our community. We introduced our first summer camp, the Perform 4 Purpose Summer Music Camp in the summer of 2013!
Students are able to receive scholarships to both the Perform 4 Purpose Summer Camps and other artistic summer camps that are chosen by Perform 4 Purpose. Students are chosen to receive scholarships based on financial need and extent by which they will benefit from the camp by the Perform 4 Purpose Board of Directors.
Perform 4 Purpose Summer Music Camp:
Our first ever Perform 4 Purpose Summer Music Camp was held in Moravia, New York during the summer of 2013. This camp offered lessons in brass, woodwind, percussion, and guitar during a music day camp Monday through Friday. Experiences at the camp were centered on a community-oriented approach to music making (in other words, making music with others!) with the goal of contributing to the local community based on the Perform 4 Purpose model. Sessions and experiences included learning beginner and intermediate songs, melodies, and chord changes, and of course jam sessions with other campers! Campers formed mini bands with the leadership of a student mentor, and performed at the end of the week in a concert that raised money for a local organization. In 2013, our campers performed at the Perform 4 Purpose fundraising event, Perform 4 Tim & Charmaine Horner, at the end of their camp week. Together, they worked hard to support the Horner siblings!
